June Festivals and Events in Kansas

June 21-22, 2013  The Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle – Lenexa, Kansas
The Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle started in 1982 with 12 contestants and 12 judges. On April 27, 1984, Governor John Carlin declared the contest the official Kansas State Championship. Since then, the contest has grown to its current size of 200 contestants and 240 judges.

June 22, 2013  5th Annual Meatloaf Festival & Car Show – Paxico, Kansas
This festival features a meatloaf cook-off, car show, live music, vendors, childrens’ games and much more! Come join in the festivities and stroll the historic streets of downtown Paxico.  New events this year include a pie baking contest and outdoor flea market.

June 22, 2013  National Festival of Breads 2013 – Manhattan, Kansas
America’s only amateur bread baking contest will make its home in Manhattan, Kansas. on June 22, 2013.  The National Festival of Breads, sponsored by King Arthur Flour, Fleischmann’s Yeast and the Kansas Wheat Commission, celebrates the relationship between farmer and consumer and highlights the art of baking bread at home. The biennial competition, which seeks the best bread recipes from home bakers throughout the United States, is adding a Youth Category to this year’s contest that is open to amateur youth bakers ages 12 to 17 from all over the nation. The adult competition is open to home bakers ages 18 and up.

July Festivals and Events in Kansas

JULY 4, 2013 – There are so many events on this day that they are too numerous to list. Virtually every community in the U.S. has a 4th of July celebration.

July 9-13, 2013  80th Annual Fiesta Mexicana – Topeka, Kansas
Enjoy delicious homemade tacos, enchiladas, tamales, burritos, and tostadas–it’s not unusual to sell over 10,000 items a night. Fiesta activities include a parade, art show, run/walk, carnival, and jalepeno eating contest, as well as banda, norteno, salsa, mariachi and English mainstream music.

July 10-14, 2013  113th Annual Wheat Festival – Wellington, Kansas
Celebrates Wellington,”Wheat Capital of the World”, with events for the whole family including a variety of contests, picnic in the park, games, carnival, car show, bed races, arts and crafts show, softball and volleyball tournaments, street dance, ice cream social and of course, a great hometown parade.

July 11-13, 2013  Salute! A Festival of Wine & Food – Lawrence, Kansas
Sample fine wines, spirits and gourmet food in an elegant summer atmosphere. Live and silent auctions to benefit Cottonwood,Inc., an agency that serves people with developmental disabilities. (also: www.visitlawrence.com/events/5392/salute-2013 )

July 12-13, 2013  Fowler Threshing Days – Fowler, Kansas
Week long activities begin on the 2nd Friday in July; culminating with a parade on the third Saturday in July every year. The event includes a parade, an old-time threshing demonstration, arts & crafts, food, fun, and games.
July 19-20, 2013  Wild Blue BBQ & Expo – Burlington, Kansas
The 9th annual event will include a KCBS sanctioned cook-off and lots of family fun.

July 19-20, 2013  Blues, BBQ & Bargains – Hays, Kansas
Events include a Kansas City Barbecue Society contest, Kids Q, live music, beer garden, car cruise-in, and sidewalk sales in the Chestnut Street District of historic downtown Hays.

September 6-15, 2013  Kansas State Fair – Hutchinson, Kansas
The Kansas State Fair will feature over 30,000 entries in competitive exhibitions, national acts, midway, and delicious fair foods. The fair attracts 350,000 visitors each year.
