Review of The Columbia Restaurant, Sarasota, FL

columbia chick Peas

I have been to this establishment several times and, as a traveler, always look at the value for what I am getting. The food is good however, the value at lunch is better than dinner. They are known for their Sangria and 1905 Salad…both never disappoint along with their piping hot fresh bread. This was a dinner trip and I wanted to try their Paella and opted for the chicken and chorizo style. They tell you up front it will be 30 minutes….I am guessing they started on it right away because the chicken was not edible it was so overcooked and the rice was so salty it almost could not be eaten. I was happy that I splurged the $11 for three little appetizer scallops and the 1905 salad since that was my dinner. The service is okay, however, the busy tourist season seems to challenge this establishment. The waiter probably should have noticed that neither my guest or I ate the Paella. I have had some wonderful meals but I would stick to the fish or pork dishes…or anything at lunch.
