I just couldn’t resist sharing this amazing recipe from Cafe Reconcile in New Orleans.

Sweet Potato Pie

Top off your Thanksgiving meal this year with this delicious sweet potato pie that everybody will be leaving room for.


  • 6 medium-to-large Louisiana sweet potatoes, peeled, boiled until soft, and mashed
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla
  • Sweet Potato Pie Crust (Makes 2 Crusts)
  • 1 box 18.25-ounce box yellow cake mix
  • (without pudding)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup water
  • all-purpose flour, for binding and dusting


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix together cake mix, egg, butter, and water until a soft dough is formed.
  3. Add additional flour if needed till mixture is consistency of pie dough.
  4. Knead dough slightly, divide into quarters and roll each into a 10-inch disc.
  5. For each pie, lay 1 disc into the bottom of a greased 10-inch pie pan.
  6. Spoon half of the sweet potato mixture into each and spread evenly.
  7. Top each pie with one of the remaining discs of dough.
  8. Bake until the top is golden brown, about 25 minutes.
  9. Serve hot or cold.
